SUMMARY;
A sudden, sharp pain at the back of her head—that’s how Sunayani Sarkar remembers her trip to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in June 2024. Weeks later, the 22-year-old biotechnology student found herself seeking relief from her chronic migraine with a fistful of prescribed pills.
It was only months—and scores of tablet strips—later that her doctor suggested she try out Nerivio, a migraine-management device. “A BP-machine-like arm patch,” she called it.
Nerivio, which resembles a band tied around the arm, treats migraines through remote electrical neuromodulation. That is, it sends electrical signals to the nerves to reduce pain. The device connects to an app via Bluetooth and controls the electronic pulses sent to the arm. It also stores the patient’s data to track migraine episodes over a period of time.
Pharmaceutical major Dr Reddy’s launched the product in India through an exclusive partnership with Theranica Bio-Electronics, an Israeli biomedical technology firm, in November 2023. In a year since, the Hyderabad-based company sold nearly 3,500 devices to about 2,500 patients, MV Ramana, CEO of Branded Markets (India & Emerging Markets), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, told The Ken.
In the six months ended September 2024, the company clocked nearly Rs 15,700 crore in revenue, up 15% from the year-ago period. Even in the latest September quarter, Dr Reddy’s top line grew by 17% to over Rs 8,000 crore. Its India business contributes to nearly 17% of the revenue mix.
